7 EdTech Events Every Educator Should Know About

1. Online Learning Conference

When? 17 – 19 September 2013

Where? Chicago, Illinois

What? This conference focusses on skill-building content, with sessions on e-learning, m-learning, virtual classrooms, games, simulations and more. Hands on clinics, best practice discussions and skill-building breakout sessions promise to focus on integrating technology and finding innovative new solutions.

 

2. The Second International Conference on E-Learning and E-Technologies in Education (ICEEE)

When? 23 – 25 September 2013

Where? Lodz University of Technology, Poland

What? The conference promises to cover a comprehensive range of EdTech topics, from digital libraries for education to distance education, virtual labs and classrooms to course design and e-learning curriculae.

 

3. The Unisa Cambridge International Conference on Open, Distance and E-learning

When? 29 September – 2 October 2013

Where? Spier Estate, Cape Town, South Africa

What? Most pertinent for those educators working in distance learning and online technology, this is a small-scale international conference focussing particularly on issues relevant to the Global South. Discussions will include weighing the effectiveness and viability of new technology, and considering the impact of global issues such as poverty, economic downturns, a mass demand for education, and the digital divide on open, distance and e-learning.

 

4. The EdTech Teacher iPad Summit

When? 13 – 15 November 2013

Where? Hynes Convention Center, Boston , USA

What? With an exciting array of talks, presentations, workshops, informal gatherings and hands-on sessions, the aim of the conference is for teachers to identify and share iPad and mobile learning best practice, with a focus on integrating education technology and iPad use in the classroom. And if you can’t make this one, don’t worry – there’s another summit in San Diego in February 2014!

 

5. Bett Show

When? 22 – 25 January 2014

Where? Excel, London, UK

What? The Bett Show is the UK’s largest technology and learning event, bringing together 35,000 educators and learning professionals to showcase the latest exciting advances in education technology as well as sharing innovative new ideas and techniques for integrating technology in the classroom. With free seminars and workshops, the event covers learning technology for all ages and abilities, from primary and secondary to higher education.

 

6. SXSW Edu

When? 3 – 6 March 2014

Where? Austin, Texas

What? 4 days of compelling sessions, socials and events for educators and education technology leaders, with previous keynote speakers including Bill Gates, Levar Burton and Asenath Williams.

 

7. Blackboard World

When? 14 – 17 July 2014

Where? Las Vegas, USA

What? The EdTech giant’s own conference explores the challenges faced by active learners and their educators, though it should be noted that it does focus on the use of Blackboard’s product suite to enhance e-learning. Last year’s conference included sessions on the flipped classroom, mobile learning and collaboration and student safety and online bullying among others.

    A great event is the 2013 Media Literacy Conference: Playful Learning that will explore game-based learning. The event will happen at MIT Media Lab (Cambridge, MA) on Nov 2.
