1. Best Overall Board: Skitch Complete Skateboard Gift Set

Skitch Complete Skateboard Gift Set

Rated as number one in skateboard quality and gift experience, the Skitch Complete Skateboard Gift Set is one of the best kids’ skateboard gifts you can buy a child for their birthday or Christmas. The galaxy graphics set includes the complete premium 22-inch mini cruiser skateboard, a skateboard backpack, a carry bag, and a skate tool. Kids from 5 years old to 13 years may appreciate this wonderful gift.

If you are concerned that, as a novice, your child may go too fast and not be able to control the skateboard, the adjustable feature allows for adjusting truck bushings for slower cruising. Use the skate tool and speed caps provided to adjust the wheels for a cruising speed a young child or beginner can handle. The caps work like training wheels on a beginner board, and the speed depends on how tightly or loosely you adjust them. When the child has mastered the skills, a parent may adjust the truck bushings for faster skating.

The adjustability feature also serves for weight capacity and riding style. Adapt the skateboard as your child grows to accommodate their body size and improved skill levels. Tweens and teens who want more than cruising on the streets from their skateboards can change the bushings to adapt to their riding style and tricks level.

ABEC-9 Chrome bearings—the maximum bearing precision quality—give greater maneuverability in reaching higher speeds. These are the best skateboard bushings available. You may notice the superb difference when you flick the wheels out of the box and on the first couple of rides. The skateboard may last for a long time if riders look after it and keep the bearings out of rain, sand, and dirt.

The stiffer 82A durometer wheels ensure good balance for novices, optimal traction, and a comfortable ride over distance. The aluminum trucks are durable to last and lightweight for convenient portability. You don’t want the skateboard so heavy that it tires the child when carrying it to a riding spot.

The bushings and trucks of the Skitch Complete skateboard are designed for a classic, smooth surf-ride feel, excellent carving, and flexibility reference taking the skateboard riding experience to the next level.

The skateboard has all the features beginners and experienced skaters may enjoy. The adjustable feature makes it the best versatile and complete skateboard for kids and adults up to a maximum weight of 200 pounds.

FAQ About The Best Skateboards for Kids

What is the Best Skateboard for my Child to Learn On?

The best skateboards for kids are always the ones that fit the child. Each child is unique and has different needs for skateboarding. Kids ride skateboards for commuting purposes, for play, to cruise, or for tricks. It all depends on your child’s ability and desire.

Many think children younger than 5 years old don’t have the muscle power, motor skills, and balance for skating. Pre-Kindergarten kids, however, can have fun on skateboards. Young kids tend to sit on the board when they go downhill. If your child does that, then a board without grip tape on the deck is a better option because grip tape can poke holes in their clothes.

Where the children are going to skate influences what type of beginner skateboards parents should buy. Things to consider are the deck quality and wheels. Soft wheels make the ride smoother over rough terrain. Hard wheels work better for street riding, driveways, and pathways. Double kick tails skateboards are best for tricks and skating in a skate park. Wider boards are easier to catch when flipping. The child’s foot size and weight also affect the size skateboard they need.

What is the Best Beginner Skateboard?

There are three types of skateboards: standard skateboards, cruiser boards, and longboards.

Standard skateboards are normally the best type of skateboard for beginners. These popsicle-shaped boards feature symmetrical noses and tails and come with hard wheels. Standard boards are ideal for driveways, parks, and street skating, where beginners normally learn the ropes.

Cruiser skateboards have softer wheels for moving faster over rough surfaces and come in different shapes but are the same length as a standard board. These boards are best for commuting and agile movement.

Longboards are great for learning and improving balancing skills. Their longer length makes them great for cruising and skating downhill.

Buying a well-known skateboard brand is good, but the price point could be too much for a parent who isn’t sure if their child is going to like the skateboard scene. Parents have a choice to purchase less-famous brand products. These companies often manufacture a quality board and design that is highly competitive with the more famous brands.

How do I Choose A Skateboard Size?

The width of the board is important when choosing the skateboard size. The right width will give the child the stability and comfort of riding a skateboard. If the board is too wide, it requires more physical pushing effort to move the board forward. A beginner may have difficulty building confidence when riding a too-narrow board designed for tricks.

The child’s height and shoe size are excellent guides in determining skateboard size. Teenagers generally wear adult shoe sizes and should be able to ride comfortably on a full-sized skateboard of 7.5 inches or more. The shoe size of kids six years to 8 years old normally support mini skateboards with a width between 6.75 and 7.25 inches. A five-year-old may feel safest on a board that is 6.5 to 6.75 inches wide.  As boys are usually larger than girls, you may find the best skateboard for girls tends to be smaller.

How Long is A Standard Skateboard?

Longboards are generally over 36 inches long, and below 30 inches are deemed mini skateboards. Most skateboards designed for kids are 22 inches mini cruisers with widths that suit their age measured by shoe size. Some like street cruising on 30 inches boards.

The skateboard length isn’t as important as the width when choosing the right size for your child.

    Thanks for useful article!
Looking up comprehensive product reviews, demo videos, checking out skateboard uk or other marketplaces, and asking around can do wonders in picking out the best skateboard as a gift for my kids!

  2. Kane Holland says:

A good skateboard should be in a size that allows the child plenty of room to move his feet around and do simple tricks. For a 6-year-old beginner skateboarder, the ideal size is at least 7.5 inches wide and 28 inches long, or the “mini” skateboard. With the mini-board, even the wheels and trucks are scaled-down. This is to fit the deck size and to make the board lightweight.
