John Deere is as American as corn dogs, Abe Lincoln’s beard and pretending you’re from Canada while traveling. Known as the inventor of the “plow that broke the plains” Deere stood for all that is good about America, from the entrepreneurial spirit to the honest and grounded work ethics. John Deere toys are made with these principles in mind; whether it’s a cute corn teether for a baby or a collectible for a teen, you know you’re getting a good quality product.
The iconic yellow and green colors with the leaping deer(e) are recognized worldwide and there aren’t too many kids who haven’t owned a John Deere toy of some kind.
A couple of years back we were doing a road trip through a few small towns and we needed to make a quick pit stop, only the 14th one in as many miles. The kids spotted a store selling candy and other knickknacks, which they had to go see. Ben, who loves all things farming, spotted a steel John Deere wagon that he needed, desperately. We really didn’t want more stuff in the car and so we promised something bigger and better at the next stop, we promised candy for dinner, ice cream for breakfast and chocolate bars for lunch. To no avail. We left the store with the John Deere truck and a smiling Ben.

Of all the John Deere toys, it’s easy to see why kids love this tractor. Ideal for ages two to seven, it comes fitted with an FM radio, a trailer, automatic brakes and 4WD farm tractor wheels. It has an adjustable seat with flip-up armrests and for peace of mind, parents can control the speed with a gear lockout feature. All I’m saying is thank goodness Ben didn’t see this at the store.

As far as John Deere toys go, this farm playset for little ones is super fun. Your budding farmer can create real harvesting action with the combine by pushing it along to make the head rotate and the grain pivot back and forth in the hopper. There are 20 pieces, including four vehicles: two tractors, a combine and a gator. The functioning hood and loader provides hands-on play for hours of farming fun. I’m not sure what I love more about this little farm set, the John Deere toys you can play with or the carry case they come in. The Fun on the Go Carry Case Value Set includes 18 pieces to create a farm and your little one can take his favorite toys wherever he goes with the handy the carry case. The set is durable and can handle the roughest play, and when it’s time to pack up everything packs neatly into the case for safe keeping.
4. John Deere Sandbox Vehicle 2pk, Truck and Tractor
What’s a sandpit without a cool tractor and truck? Durable for outside play the vehicles have free rolling wheels and fully functional parts. Kids, and some adults will love the moving dump bed on the dump truck and tractor with the working front loader. Recently we were at a John Deere themed birthday party and the mum had used the sandbox set as cake toppers, which I thought was quite clever and the kids thought was ‘awesome’.

As if built into their DNA most boys (and some girls) love heavy duty farm equipment, from how they work to what they do. Isn’t it ironic that when kids are enthusiastic to help around the house and garden they’re too young to handle the power tools and machinery and then, as soon as they’re old enough to manage the equipment all enthusiasm to assist has waned? The John Deere Real Sounds Lawn Mower lets your enthusiastic helper get in on the action around the yard. The toy has imitation rotating grass clippings and a spinning grass blade and a voice that prompts kids to check the oil and fill up with gas. The handles are extendable and can adjust easily for storage purposes.
7. Ertl John Deere Deluxe Talking Toolbelt
Shut the barn door! A talking tool belt? Your little fixer-upper will love this seven piece set with a hammer, wrench, screwdriver and pliers. The tool belt has a slot for each of the tools and the belt buckle, which is electronic, includes three tool sounds and two phrases; “Nothing runs like a Deere” and “It’s time to work on our John Deere tractors!” I can guarantee you’ll be sick to death of it in an hour or less but your little handyman will love it.
8. John Deere Steel Stake Wagon Green
